With all traffic problems and congestion going on in the intra-local streets that closing McIntyre Street that divides the Civic Center campus is being considered as a good idea. Council member Mike Kelly is once again showing his near sightedness along with the ” opens pace tribesman” that support such a regressive idea. First the Fire Station abuts McIntyre Street. There Fire Trucks need to use it when emergency call requires it. Secondly, it is major access artery from the condominium district to the Community Center. The brain dead idea also accompanies closing Greenway Way that travels to the doorstep of the Community center itself. Thirdly, part of Greenway provides rear access to Suntrust Bank drive thru. This easement was provided in perpetuity by written agreement between Village municipality and building owner. At the time the existing Key Biscayne Bank property in the rear (Community Center building sits)was exchanged for the frontage on Crandon Boulevard.
Suggestions like this requires serious consideration not for it merits but rather charter amendment to reduce the amount time Village Council meets as a governing body.
